Scrappy Civil War 9-patch

What we are swapping:

  • Twelve (12), 5” Nine Patches made from 2” strips of Civil War (CW) fabric and twelve (12) 5" cream squares.
  • The darker fabrics are civil war reproductions and  should be medium to medium dark.  All the dark fabrics must be different in each block, but can be used in other blocks.
  • The creams are Tone-on-Tone creamy civil war shirtings.  They can have flecks of other colors, however,  the fabric should "show" as creamy.
  • All the creams in one block must be different but can be used in other blocks.
  • If you have a question about a fabric, please post a picture or send a PM to me

The Block:

  • Fabrics need to be 100% cotton, quilt-shop-quality (QSQ) fabric only, please (no box store, thin, gauzy fabrics)
  • Prewash all fabric until the water runs clear.
  • Use CW fabrics in creams and medium to dark colors.

The Swap:

This swap is for all members and levels of quilters and a minimum of 6 swappers is required.  Swappers will send a minimum of 6 baggies or a maximum number of baggies that equal the number of swappers enrolled minus the one you for yourself.  The number of baggies you send equals the number of baggies you receive in return.  In the event more than the minimum 6 swappers sign-up , please send one set per swapper up to 12. If more than 12 swappers sign-up, it's up you whether you want to send more than 12 sets.

To sign up, post intent below and send a QATW Personal Message (PM) to me.  Include your name, your QATW nickname, both email and mailing addresses, and telephone number.  Be sure to include all the information requested.

  1. Weekly progress reports are required until your package arrives at the hostess’ house. (I do NOT like to patch swappers).
  2. Be sure to label each baggie with your Given Name, Your QATW nickname.
  3. Include return postage with your blocks.  I have the bubble-lined flat rate envelops so no need to include the envelope.  I don’t mind if you send stamps, cash or check.  The Flat Rate padded envelope rate is now $8.00.

Deadlines:

Sign-up closes on 10/14.  Blocks must be mailed by 11/18 for USA Swappers; for overseas swappers, the mailing deadline is 11/11.

Sign me up!   I made this in Reds, then blues and I'm a go for scrappy.

I think gail said it'd be best to have at least 7 different darks to keep them looking a little different...   These blocks are so small they all blend together wonderfully.

I'll get some prewashing tomorrow morning.  My scrap basket is pretty low so I'll be using f4s are large and know these will work up super fast by strip piecing.

LauraB - You will love these blocks.   Let's do this!!

LindaM, this swap is SO YOU!!!  Sent you a PM so you didn't miss it.

Laura, each block should be somewhat different.  You can use the same fabrics in several of the blocks, but they should all look a little different.  I think 7-8 fabrics should give a nice variety.

Prewashing some fabs today...  chelle had a great idea in that I should cut my strips now, before I get to the retreat.

Good idea Glenda!  These are such easy blocks.  If you have your strips cut, you'll get them sewn up in no time!  I'm hoping we have enough swappers to get this started!

oh, me, please! I just gave away the blue and cream civil war 9 patch we did here. That was hard to do (the giving away, not the making).

I just read on a chart that you can get 99 squares from a fat quarter ( 2" squares from an 18" x 22" fat )

I love that quilt, but I don't have the cw fabrics or the shirtings. Maybe next time with different fabrics.

This swap is a go!  Hopefully we'll get more swappers signing up.  I may do 2 sets. I'll have to check my stash and my calendar.

So starting at the top as number 1- which if any would be ok? I will get you some pics of what I have here at home too. But thinking mine lean more to the tan side more then the cream.
