TRICK 'O TREAT SAMPLER

THE QUILT
Our Halloween quilt will be using the free pattern "Trick or Treat Quilt-a-long" by  Alexandra Henry.  It consists of 12 blocks, sashing and corner stones.  In this swap, each swapper will be making one (1) character block.  This setting uses 12 of the 13 blocks featured in the free pattern. Click here for the assembly instructions, fabric requirements for this setting and patterns for thirteen blocks. The 13th
block, the Trick or Treat words/sign, will be used as a label.  www.pellonprojects.com/projects/trick-or-treat-lap-quilt/

THE SWAP
There must be 12 swappers to activate this swap.  Each set will consist of 1 character block   Make 12 sets: Keep one for yourself and mail 11 to the hostess. The sashing, corner stones and the gray border triangles are not part of the swap; each swapper completes these items on their own. Deadline to sign-up is August 31; deadline to mail in USA is Oct 5th, one week prior for Maria

MAILING
Each set must be packaged in a plastic baggie labeled with both your screen name and site nickname.  Insert the 11 baggies in a larger baggies and label it the same.

Include in the mailing your blocks and a self-addressed, self-stamped envelope for return of your swapped baggies. I keep the padded flat rate envelopes.  If you choose to have your swap blocks returned this way, just include your mailing address and postage (stamps, personal check, money order, cash. It is wisest to mail with a tracking number.

THE FABRIC
Only use Quilt-Shop-Quality (QSQ) fabrics; no box store fabrics or thin gauzy ones.  All fabrics must be thoroughly prewashed: some of the colors being used are known bleeders.  Any freaky Halloweenish-colors can be used for the character blocks.

THE BLOCKS
The character blocks are 9-1/2" unfinished, i.e. 9-1/2" in your hand when you mail.  Choose your block from the patterns shown at the bottom of the project sheet.  Post your choice so no blocks will be duplicated.

Use the pattern included.  Alternatively, you can submit for approval, a different method of making the subject of the block you choose.  For example, in the case of the owl:  instead of using the pieced block pattern included, hand applique a block.  Ensure that besides being the same subject, it be the same size and perspective.  Blocks can be pieced, paper pieced, hand or machine appliqued.  Use an appiique method with no raw edges.  If using machine applique with fusibles, please using the windowing method of applying the fusible.

Feel free to make your block creative.  Maybe some 3-D elements like some yard or dimensional threading for the broom head, buttons for years, some sparkle fabric for the moon-- you get the idea.

DEADLINES
Sign-up:  Midnight August 31
Mailing:   Postmarked on/before OCT 5 - one week before for Maria

When you first look at the patterns, they seem like they would be difficult with all those lines through them.  But they are basically squares, rectangles, and hst's.  Easy peasy!

Gail is correct.  The patterns are not difficult.  Take a peek!  I know you will want to join.  And, you can also suggest an alternative way of construction.

Sew........

I'm thinking about the halloween basket - that pattern calls for a small round piece being appliqued could a button be used instead? I'm not sure of my applique skills for this project.

2nd choice would be the broom - that has applique too but it's not a circle!

Tracy

ps I saw this swap and wasnt' sure about joining and I went on vacation and thought if there were still spots open I would think about it!

Tracy:  We would love to have you join us!

Yes, you can use the button!   In fact, any three dimension ornamentation is encouraged; for example, the broom could easily have some yarn for the straw part.

Hope this encourages you (and many others) to join.

Leslie - I will do the broom! The broom is kind of fitting since years ago my friend got a sign for my office about Broom Parking Only!

How about it Sharon?  Can we sign you up for the candy corn????

If we get nine (9) swappers we will proceed.  Sew . . . . . .  we are almost there.

My sincere and deep apologies to everyone.  Donna is absoslutely correct.  I did have the two candy corns listed in one place and not the other.  My

So to clarify: You have have to make one character block per swapper and one for yourself.

Again my sincere apologies for making this a freakish nightmare.

If you have made the candy corn already, please let me know. Otherwise please wait to cut and sew until we have at least nine swappers.
