Christmas In July - Let's get a head Start!

Let's get a head start this year and swap some beautiful, handmade ornaments!

Ornaments shall be handmade, and can be quilted, embroidered, wool and wool felt, tatted, crocheted, lace work, or knitted.  Products used must be quilt shop quality.  Make an ornament that you would want to receive.  This is a great time to show us your many skills!!

This year, we are going to make this a centralized swap consisting of groups of 6.  This swap is for all swappers, as long as you are not in the patch.  You will make 6 ornaments, keep one and mail 5 to the hostess.    You may sign up for more than one group, but the ornament must be different than the first group.  (example:  if using machine embroidery, you should use a different pattern.)

All 5 ornaments must fit in a priority mail flat rate padded envelope, (or envelope of the same size) or small box.  As light as these may be, it may be less expensive to mail regular mail than priority.  You may use a small box to mail your ornaments as well, keep in mind return ornaments must fit in that box.  Please keep ornaments flat or lightly stuffed for packaging purposes.

To participate in the swap;

  • Post in this thread your intent to swap
  • PM Fabriholic with Name, Nickname, Ornament you are going to make, Addy, phone # and email address.
  • Read and Sign the Guidelines to Swap in 2015 thread (Click Here)
  • Members must be in good standing and not in the Briar Patch.

Reminders

  • Label baggies with swap name and group #, your name, nickname, and address.  Put your baggies in one large baggie and label with the same name.
  • Make weekly progress reports until your ornaments have been received by the hostess.
  • Make sure you pick 1 day a week to check in on your swap. (stay away from the patch!)
  • Include a pre-addressed and stamped return envelope for your blocks or if you use a box, I will send the box back, just include return postage.
  • I can provide padded priority mail flat rate envelopes if you prefer.  Just send check/cash for postage or stamps.  Priority Mail flat rate padded envelope is $8.00.  A Flat Rate Legal Size envelope is 7.65.  Since these will be light, you could probably use regular mail for much less.
  • Fabric used is to be made from 100% cotton, quilt-shop-quality (QSQ) fabric only. No box store, thin, gauzy fabrics.
  • Pre-wash all fabric until the water runs clear.
  • You can nominate 2 swappers for a Gold Star to Quilting Nana.  If you find an outstanding group of ornaments, i.e. well made, great embroidery, pressed and straight, great fabrics that meet the guidelines, packaging is appropriate, and labeled correctly.

Deadlines:

Signups Close: Wednesday, July 17, 2017 (giving a few extra days for July 4 holiday)

Postmarked by: Monday, August 12, 2019. Outside of the US - Postmarked by Monday, August 5 2019.

If you have any questions, or want to make sure that an ornament will be good to use for the swap, please post here or pm Fabriholic.   Happy Ornament Making!

Sheila

I'm looking forward to making these cute little Woolfelt Merry Mugs.  I bought them from Mass Drop last year and finally going to make them.

If we don't fill up Group 2, we will combine them.  Does anyone mind making a few more ornaments if that ends up being the case? (we have quite a bit of time left for sign ups.)

I can only make 6 of these Merry Mugs, but could do something else to fill in.

I can make as many as we need, these Cathedral Window's are really fun to make.  Also, I would like to sign up for group 2.

We have plenty of time to get group 2 filled.  Should not have to worry about it to much!
