What does 2019 have in store for you?

Quilty Finishes!

I come to this thread almost daily to see everyone's finishes.   I love the inspiration I get from my QATW friends in this and every thread in this group.

We want to see pictures of quilted projects that you finish this year.  You will earn points for each finish for Quarterly Prizes and for a Grand Prize at the end of the year!

Your projects should need at least 8 hours of work in 2019 to reach the finished stage.  (If all that is left is stitching the binding to the back side, it was practically finished already, and we're still happy for you that it's now done, but for prize-giving purposes, let's not count those.)

Earn 10 (or more) points for quilty projects completed in 2019 and your name will be entered in a grand prize drawing at the end of the year.

One (1) Point for a quilt finish - minimum size 40" x 40", quilted and bound

One (1) Point for every three small finishes under size of 40" x 40" up to 4 points

One (1) Bonus point for each quilt finish made of QATW swap blocks that you participated in (awarded year-end)

These can be UFOs, UFO's from the challenge thread, quilt along projects, BOM's from the BOM thread, or a new project you started. But all must have required minimum 8 hours of work in 2019 - even the small projects.

There will be quarterly drawings for those with 3 or more finishes in the quarter.  Drawings will be April 1, July 1, October 1, and January 1 (2019).  All bonus points (swaps & small projects) will be tallied in, and the grand prize drawing wll be held January 1, 2020 from those names earning a minimum of 10 year-end points.  That means each quilter has FIVE chances to win something, one per quarter and the grand prize!

In the discussion thread to follow, please post a description of your finished project, the history of your progress on it, who it is for, the pattern name if you know it, its finished size (inches x inches), if it's a QATW swap you participated in, and then post a finished picture.

Finishes will be counted in the month they are posted.  If you post in April, points are counted in April.

Please post in this discussion area.  Do not PM me.  I will update the chart from your posts here once every 7-10 days.

Lets work on those Quilty Finishes!

Quilty Finishes 2019  Chart

Housekeeping - for the next 56 days I will be on 3p to 11p shift, with Mondays and Tuesdays off.  I am not allowed to have my cell phone in dispatch, and an unable to check the forum when I am on the console.

I will check the thread daily, in the mornings, and I will update the chart on either Monday or Tuesday each week.

If I miss your post on your  finish, please PM me with when you posted it and I will review and update the chart.

I am tracking these in and Excel Spreadsheet and will update, then copy and paste my chart from there.

***You must post a finished picture or link to the gallery for the finsh to count.  I know the gallery can be quirky depending upon operating systems.  Several are always willing to help you get your picture from the gallery to the thread!

Happy Finishes!

Trying to read this and determine what finishes will actually count....I think I'm reading that only "quilty" finishes are counted, large or small.  Just want to clarify in my mind.  In other words, if I make something that is crafty, or embroidered (towels), or sewing related (aprons, pillow cases, etc), but is not quilt related, does it count?  There are lots of projects we work on here, and while we are Quilting Around the World, we have many things that we accomplish.  Many of the non quilt things that some of us make have elements of quilting in them and can take longer than 8 hours each.  Just curious how to interpret.  Thank you.

Sharon  great question.   I plan on following the same parameters as Nancy did in 2018.  SH

Define Quilty Finishes:

1.  Any item that is has been quilted:  Quilts, totes, pillows, table runners, wall hangings, jackets, hot pads, embroidery combinations (should have quilting/embroidery both) etc.  It should be quilted in some way.  Embroidery stitches can be used as the quilting as well.

2.  Group and direct mail swaps you have participated in and completed for QATW.  Block swaps you have participated in and completed the top.  Direct swaps where you have made the item gifted. (whether embroidered, pieced, wool, quilted, sewn)

3.  For the extra QATW point to count, you must have swapped the blocks and completed the top.

4.  ADDED 12/28/18:  QATW Group Quilt Along completions.

I understand that we are a diverse group with several who have multiple talents and beautiful work.  The spirit of the contest is for Quilty Finishes.

Any questions, please send me a PM

I’m in. My goal for 2019 is to finish a bunch of the many UFO’s I’ve accumulated, so this should be fun!

I'll be trying to get some things finished next year too. I have one quilt top that needs to be quilted and gifted (the bear paw swap). I have 2 boy quilts I want to piece and quilt, so that my boys have new quilts when their room is finished. Other than that, i don't have any that NEEDS to be done, but I will hopefully finish up some other UFO's along the way.

Keep a smile in your heart :) Dorian

I am setting my goal to have quite a few of my swaps completed, along with many of my numerous UFO's.  So I will be working toward earning a few points.  I also love to come in and see what finishes others have posted, it really peaks my interests in creating more UFO's!  LOL

It is a vicious circle I tell you!!!

My sewing machine is calling me and today I hope to listen! Sally

We have several different QATW sponsored quilt along groups on this forum that have a variety of techniques represented.  Finishes from these groups will count towards large/small finishes, dependent upon the size of the project.

Please sign me up! I'm not a record-setter, but seeing my finishes tallied motivates me to TRY to get more done. Thanks.

I am confused. Is "quilty finishes 2019" the same as "Official 2019 UFO Challenge" from which the January 2019 UFO Challenge is the monthly posting, which designates which on the official list to work on?  I listed 12 for the BOM Challenge, and another different 12 for the Official, and I am ashamed to admit that I probably do have another 12 different UFOs I could list for quiltly finishes.

Could I submit finishes from the other 2 groups, to "Quilty Finishes?"

Patti - Yes, submit your finishes from both of those groups, and any other quilty finishes you get done throughout the year  for the Quilty Finishes Contest.  Sorry for the confusion.  Sheila

I still have at least thirty quilt kits, if not more, to tackle. Like Nancy, I want to use this to motivate me to finish some this year. Every year I get distracted with new projects. I need to focus on my kits, lol. I'm in, Sheila.

BTW, I put out the Valentine mat you made me during one of our swaps, Sheila. I put up Valentine when I take down Christmas. Love your pretty hearts matbigGrin

So glad you are enjoying it.  I love our little mats we have swapped!  Sheila

Patti, this contest is the same as "Completed in 2018" that is finishing up now. There is a lot of overlap between all of our contests, and you can win prizes in several of them using the very same quilts. The beauty of this contest is that it can be ANY quilty finish. You don't have to make a list. You can work on anything your heart desires at any time. It can be a brand new project or a UFO. It can be large or small. It just needs to require a minimum of 8 hours of effort in the year 2019.
