Brigit-Carol, thanks for posting the links.  If you have any problems posting the links, I'd be happy to help you out.

I just got notification that my fabric will be here in about 2 days.  This is good news...I'll have time to pre-wash my new fabrics, especially the red.

I need to go and look at the size of the HST's needed and then I'll see if I'll use the 8 at a time method...I love that method!!

I'll post a picture of my fabrics after they arrive.

Thanks, Glo.  I'm a slow learner on forums, but I think I figured out the link thing.  If I mess up, I'll give you a holler.

I'm doing the throw size, and the HST blocks are cut at 6.25", so I think the finished size will be 5".  From looking at the cutting instructions, it looks like I can make over 3/4ths the blocks using the magic 8 system.  I'm going to cut some over the weekend and make a few of HSTs to test things out.

Here are my fabric choices to make a queen size Aloha Ripple quilt top.

They are all Kona Cotton in Black, White, Red and Gray.

I love all the fabric combinations!  I was going to cut some today, but ended up working on the quilt for the UFO challenge instead.  And trimming FGs for ORL.  I'm so tired of trimming FGs!

I'm halfway through cutting the blue/green/grey fabric and figured out I can use the magic 8 HST method for about half of them since I'm using less colours than the original pattern. I might have a few left over, but I throw all my half finished blocks/ components into a orphan block tub and make scrappy charity quilts from them, so nothing is ever really wasted.

Fabric cut.  I'm going with the magic 8 HST method.  I cut the squares at 12-1/2" and wish I'd added a 1/4" more.  But at least with the simplicity of this pattern, if I need to I can trim all the blocks by 1/8" to make them fit.

Week 2 directions are posted:

https://happycloudcreations.com/2018/01/23/aloha-ripple-qal-week-2-flying-geese/

She uses the 4 at a time no waste method, which I prefer.

Florence -- love your fabric choices!  I've been a bit derailed this week, but hope to get the FGs made this weekend.

I have my HSTs sewn but not cut or trimmed.  I am a little afaid of pressing them all to the dark until I make sure how they will go together.

Center Block and  Block A and yes I am working a little ahead.  I think that  one yellow is going to be too light.

Step 4 is up:  https://happycloudcreations.com/2018/02/06/aloha-ripple-qal-week-4-center-block/

I am caught up except for pressing some HSTs and trimming.  This week's step is so easy -- just the center block, so I might join Flo and work a bit ahead as well.  Pics to follow this evening.  I'm stash shopping to see if I might have a print for the center block that works with my other fabrics.  Mine choices were all blenders, so maybe a pop of something different in the center might be nice.

Flo - Lovely corner block.  I think your yellow will be fine -- it looks darker in some of your pics.  Maybe live with it for a few days and then decide.  At least that is what I do, and usually don't change colours out if I've already sewn them together.  I hate ripping!

I'm caught up except for some trimming.  I decided to switch to a blue floral for the center square and will change out a few dark blue HSTs in the corners.  Some of my fabrics are very close to the same values.  I've been quilting 8 years - you'd think by now I'd remember to check values.  Ah well, it is what it is.
