 Fancy Forest by Elizabeth Hartman

Made by our very own Lorraine!

I don't remember who introduced this pattern to me but is adorable. I wanted to start this forum so we can discuss our progress, hints, and pictures.

That is very cute, Leah.  I was actually surprised to read that it is not paper pieced and doesn't use templates or any specialty rulers  May have to think about this one.

gg hijacking this post a bit:

These are some tips that I wanted to share and are just 'my' thoughts and might not work for you.  I posted them as random thoughts so they are not in order..  read all before following any of them.

1.  Work in sections more so than the entire block

2.  get post it notes and label your pieces in groups .. showing each LETTER and size it should be.

3.  Make a single block to make sure you 'understand' placement of pieces

4.  Measure and trim CONSTANTLY... yes, I yelled constantly...  all those angles made by sewing and flipping get out of shape and FAST.   It's easier to fix things as you go instead of after the block is fixed and not the right size.

5.  Cut large pieces first.. you can often get the smaller ones from the scraps.

6. The Large triangle you end up cutting away often provide 1.5" squares later.. I found this to be true dozens of times.

7.  don't worry if you block runs a tad bit short.. with all those sashing strips, you can make up for it.  ;)

8.  check for contrast at a distance... they look different when under your nose and a bright light.. later in the block, they might blend too much.

9.  Some mistakes we can live with.  Kids are going to LOVE this quilt and won't know if something is 'off'.

I saw this and showed it to Brenda. I may just buy the pattern, fabric depot has it in stock. My problem is I would have to make one for each of my grand babies. The pattern does have two sizes.

I just purchased the pattern and will also use my own fabrics. I won't be starting this yet. Got some things going on I need to focus on first. As well as my wooley projects for Christmas gifts.

Love the pattern and in January I can start something new.....  I'll just get the pattern and use my stash as the monthly fee is a bit steep for my retired budget, too.  Thanks for posting this.  So, it will be a QAL?  fun, fun, fun.

Leah, are you getting the BOM?

perhaps you could tell us which blocks they are doing each month since it sounds like we are mostly using our own fabrics.

I bought the pattern, but won't start until the first of the year. If you all start before that I'll just have to catch up. Thanks Leah for starting this QAL.

Did anyone doing the monthly Bom get your Jan kit today? Curious to see the fabric used in the Jan one. Also does it contain the stuff for all 14 of the foxes?
