This is the fabric I used. My original idea was to group the hexies around a center part of the fabric. That didn't work to my satisfaction. So now I've taken everything down and will group the pieces in some way. I want to use plain hexies around the outside in a meandering way and then applique some of the whales so they look like they are jumping into the plain area. I wanted to use a deep blue but realize the whales wouldn't show up. I need to go back to simply picking a pattern and following it instead of trying to be creative.

I remember that panel now! Oh please! You can’t stop that creative part you have. Your to good at it. I love your ideas. If anyone can make that work it’s you.

I do find ,for me anyway, panels are more of a challenge. I have several that are in different phases. I get frustrated with them and in a drawer they go. I really enjoy just beautiful fabric all cut up, then designing my own collage.

Come on Brenda. I double dog dare you!  I'll continue to struggle with my whale OBW if you get started with your OBW project.

I will TRY to post progress, maybe as early as Sunday. A

I finally came up with a layout I like. Still a work in progress. I want to use solid or tone on tone blue as the outer hex's and maybe use them to create an uneven layout. Much tweaking left to do but at least I'm encouraged to finish it.

Marg, I agree with you.  I have triangles cut, I have a panel to put them around, and here I sit...will probably have them for awile...BUT, I do intend to make one of these beautiful OBWs.

Bruce is a well known artist in the OBW world . Have you seen the prices on his pieces? He is a very sweet guy though.

I did look at the ones for sale. WOW!!! For us quilters, it would be more fun making our own- and a whole lot cheaper ;-). We could have several!

Just watched the interview of Bruce Seeds in Sewing with Nancy. On idea I liked was that he puts a piece of the original fabric in the backing of the quilt. The obw is on my bucket list and I think I have the fabric I would use--one day.

I was just looking at his Photo Gallery...OMG incredible beauties and WOW huge $ he gets for them.  Such talent.  I just found one of his, SNOW DAY, that is what I'd love my already cut out panels to even slightly resemble.  The colors in my monochromatic panels and the fabric I got to compliment it  remind me of the colors in Snow Day.  I have all the pieces cut out...Still a hope for a someday finish of my OBW.

All I can say is WOW! All are wonderful works of art but I think my favorite was the Reef. Loved the bright colors.
